Variable Frequency drives for innovative extraction well

A new contemporary extraction well keeps Brabant Water continuously informed of water levels and water quality. The same information is used by the variable frequency drives, contributing to significantly improved efficiency.

In the new design, Emotron FDU pump drives are located in decentralized underground spaces near the well shaft. Directly located on the wall within 5 meters of each submersible pump, the IP54 drive continuously direct the pump to its optimal operating point.

Protecting our water sources

Brabant Water has high Corporate Social Responsibility ambitions, including protecting the water sources and working towards the sustainable consumption and energy-efficient supply of drinking water. To reinforce these ambitions, Brabant Water has developed an innovative extraction well in-house.

With the contemporary extraction well, Brabant Water’s operational center is continuously informed of the current amount of water pumped up, the temperature, the water quality, the groundwater level and any occurring disruptions.

The same information is used by the automation system to continuously steer towards the most optimal use of the various sources. In addition, the information is used for analyzes in order to be able to continue to improve it in the future.

Decentralized system and shorter motor cables

In the new design, Brabant Water opted for a decentralized system. An important reason for this choice is a shorter motor cable (up to approx. 5 meters) between the VFD and the submersible pump. In the conventional solution, the VFDs are installed in a central switchgear building using motor cables with a length of up to 200 m.

Application know-how

At Emotron, expert knowledge is always at your fingertips. Support is available during the entire process, all the way from the tender stage to commissioning the drive at your site.

Your project team will follow you every step of the way. Emotron offers a global service network for all your service requirements.

The optimal opearting point with emotron VFDs

An important part of the decentralized installation is the Emotron FDU drive (26A 11 kW). The splash-proof (NEMA 12 / IP54) drive is installed in the underground space, directly on the wall.

An additional All-pole sine filter is used to extend the life of the submersible pump. These pumps are more vulnerable to voltage peaks than regular dry-installed pumps.

The short motor cable and energy efficient drive which continually directs the submersible pump to its most optimal operating point contribute significantly to an improved efficiency.
